Program Announcements and Updates

Quick Note from 'Behind the Scenes' of HOPE's New Marketing Efforts:

First of all, thank you all so much for your continued support of our work and being a part of our community of HOPE. We know that some of you all are reading our now-weekly news updates from your inbox -- thanks for your subscription! We also know that some of you are getting this twice or more, and we are in the process of a database re-vamp that will eliminate that soon -- thank you for your patience!

For those of you that are accessing this from Facebook or elsewhere and  not receiving this in your inbox and would like to, please click the "Sign Up to Receive Updates" button above! Thanks, and feel free to reach out to me at kbilbrey@wythehope.org with any questions or marketing needs.

Open Door Café Announces Promotion, New Assistant Manager

We are very excited to announce a new chapter in the management of the Open Door Café. Effective immediately, Jake Lewis has been promoted to Café Manager, and Rita Kelley has been hired as the Assistant Manager. They will work under Mike Pugh, HOPE’s Food Operations Lead. We have the same great crew of volunteers and look forward to welcoming new ones every day!

Thanks to All Who Made the Vet to Vet Café Possible Last Week!

We were honored to help co-host this month's Vet to Vet Café event and look forward to continuing for many months to come! Thanks to other sponsors from Southwest Virginia Veteran's Partnership and Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia, we had a great turnout!  We need your help to spread the word for the next event later this month on Thursday, February 27th.  See the bottom of this email for the full schedule. Not only did Veterans receive a free meal thanks to generous sponsors, but the opportunity created for fellowship among Veterans is priceless.

Special thanks to Mrs. Crouse's Fort Chiswell High School students for sending a very sincere and thoughtful letter thanking Veterans for their service, along with some delicious cookies!

Congratulations to HOPE's Housing Counselor/Property Manager Jordan Atwood and his wife on the birth of their child Caden !

Big Thanks to Berea Christian Church for Your Donation and Volunteer Service

From Mike Pugh, Food Operations Lead's Facebook appreciation post last week:

A very special thank you goes out this week to the congregation of Berea Christian Church. They volunteered to pack this 5th Wednesday along with the 'A team' and we are most appreciative. Most importantly I share a photo from Wednesday night of the group and please note the check that Berea presented in support of both Hope Packs and Open Door Cafe.

Their check fed every child with packs this weekend and will feed over 300 adults a warm and healthy lunch at the cafe in the following days.

Words cannot express how appreciative we all are for the heart warming determination that the congregation of Berea Christian Church has to make sure none of our friends go hungry. Berea, you set quite the example for us all.

When You Help Us Learn More, You Win!

HOPE's Community Nutritionist Ruphina Okeyo and our Food Operations Lead Mike Pugh are always wanting to hear from those we serve to make sure that we understand what people like, don't like and need from us!

We are so appreciative of your feedback that we offered a $50 gift card prize to one of the survey participants drawn at random. The winner was a parent from Max Meadows Elementary School! Keep your eye out for more of these opportunities, and help us help you by sharing your feedback.

Special thanks to Max Meadows 5th Grade Teacher and UVA Graduate Student Ms. Amanda Gillman, HOPE Packs collaborator.

Urgent Need
Our HOPE Packs project is in desperate need of gently used plastic shopping bags—preferably doubled! This is the first time in all the years of running the program that we’re desperately short of bags for next week’s packing. Just for reference, we go through over 68,000 bags each school year!!! Please drop off gently used plastic bags at Open Door Cafe or the HOPE Office during business hours.

Appreciation for Long - Time Volunteer Logan Black

The Open Door Café would like to thank Logan for his dedicated service as a volunteer this past year. Friday was his last day at the Café, and we are so thankful for him!

Thank You for Joining Us at Seven Sisters Brewery!

We are thrilled and honored with the turnout for our first run with our new bowl menu at Seven Sisters Brewery. Thanks to all who came and #ateWytheus -- a great time had by all!

In all, we served 62 bowls of all flavors with peach cobbler and ice cream to boot. Thank you, thank you and stay tuned for more. Don't forget the bowl menu launches Tuesday during lunch at the Cafe! Thanks again to Seven Sisters Brewery and their staff and as always, all who volunteered with the Open Door Cafe crew to make this happen.

New Bowl Based Menu Launching This Tuesday!

You may have got to try a sneak peek last week at the Seven Sisters Brewery, but this week we are officially introducing a new line of bowl based meals. You’ll be able to choose from select signature bowls or design your own. Varieties will include your choice of rice or salad bases, variety of vegetable ingredients, signature dressings including a protein grill item. See menu below for more details!

Reminder: Open Door will not be serving Wednesday evening meals through the winter. Look for us to restart this meal time with warmer weather.
