HOPE Packs Breaks All Time Record, Feeding 1,077 Families in One Week
|
Mike Pugh, aka "The Peanut Butter Man" as he's known around here lately has been leaving messages of encouragement on the HOPE Packs door for volunteers. As our communities face greater challenges and impacts from COVID-19, the challenge of feeding more children with the loss of vendors for food has been a difficult one. Because of our community stepping up, we have been able to meet that challenge, and as of this Friday provided more HOPE Packs than we have in the history of our program. Our volunteers and supporters are what makes us strong, and we thank you for all your contributions!
Friday's Third Live Update from HOPE Packs and the Peanut Butter Man!
|
Some highlights of this week's updates include: 1) In three weeks, our community has showed up with 1,109 jars of peanut butter! 2) The school systems announced that they will be extending their feeding programs through the month of June, which means that HOPE Packs will also be extended for four more weeks!! 3) Since this extension has happened, we are again facing shortages in our HOPE Packs supplies, and are now requesting 16oz cans of canned spaghetti for our community to donate! Stay tuned for more details next week, you may get to meet Peanut Butter Man's twin brother, Freddy Spaghetti!!!

IMPORTANT UPDATE ON HOPE PACKS BAG DONATIONS
Every week, we still are having folks attempt to drop off bags -- while we very much appreciate this, for the health and safety of our volunteers, staff and Packs recipients, we cannot accept them and encourage you to recycle or reuse them for now. There will be a need in the future, and we appreciate you keeping us in mind. Due to COVID-19, we have not and will not be collecting additional plastic bags until further notice. The clothes closet is also closed indefinitely.

Update from the Brock Hughes Medical Center: Connection to Care During COVID-19
|
Our top priority remains the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community. To help ensure you and your loved ones have access to care, we've launched a new way for you to visit with your provider, safely from your home. You can now schedule a telephone visit with your provider. If you are concerned about needing a refill on a medication but need to see a provider before you can get the refill or have other issues that could be chronic or acute related, call the Clinic (276-223-0558) and a member of the medical team will determine if an office visit is necessary at this time or if you can be scheduled for a visit with your provider via telephone. If you have a previously scheduled follow-up visit with your provider, you will be contacted to reschedule that visit for a later date or to change the visit to a telephone visit. Please check our Facebook page and https://www.cdc.gov/ for continual updates regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). https://brockhughesfreeclinic.org/
Contact Info and Update from the Family Resource Center

During the #coronavirus pandemic, another epidemic is on the rise. Victims of abuse aren't safe in their homes. Those victims may be young, middle aged, or elderly. They may be too afraid to ask for help themselves. If you suspect violence in your building or neighborhood and want to help, call the Family Resource Center at 1-800-613-6145. In an emergency, call 911. Just a note about the hotline: when you call, the statewide hotline staff will answer your call. You will need to leave your name, number and a brief explanation of what you need. The Hotline staff will then contact FRC’s on-call staff who will return your call. If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911 for help from a first-responder.
